PDA Development

These case studies highlight just a sample of the PDA systems we have written and installed
for our clients.
Whether you need a similar system - or a solution tailored to your own unique needs
- we are sure we can help. Whatever your requirements, please give us a call and we’ll be happy to
discuss it with you.
PocketCross
For use on PDAs - personal digital assistants (handheld PC) - Clearwater has developed a
PDA version of its Cross Revenue Recovery System (Pocket Cross). Working in connection with Manchester Metrolink
, we produced a system that offers a wide range of benefits and greatly boosts productivity.
As well as reducing the need for inspectors to contact the customer services department, the PDAs
allow them to check both for previous offences and for correct addresses when an offender is stopped.
Tickets are issued and recorded on the PDA and downloaded to the main database at the end of each day.
Designed for simple data entry, the system improves the effectiveness of name and address checking,
reduces the time passengers wait to be processed and reduces the workload for the clients customer
services department.
The latest version of Pocket Cross has the ability to interrogate previous offences and validate addresses
on the customers main server by using web services over the internet. It also allows tickets to be stored on
the main server in real time, rather than having to wait till the end of the day. The overall effect of this is
that hardly any data needs to be stored on the PDA and the Cross database on the main server is always up to date.
Insurance Assessors
By developing a PDA-based version of software we wrote for a firm of independent insurance assessors,
we have been able to speed up the clients operations even further. Simple data entry screens allow the clients
inspectors to enter the outcome of assessments undertaken for large insurers directly into the PDA system.
They can then transmit the information back in a format that is instantly incorporated into the office system.
Instead of taking as long as two days, the whole process can now be completed within minutes and logged
straight onto their office based system. Our solution uses web services for automatic import of appointments
to the PDA system, as well as automatic loading of new versions of the PDA system. The speed with which
reports are now being sent back to the office allows the client to easily identify opportunities for
an inspector to fit in an extra job during the day.
